In vivo Senior Scientist (Hematology)

The primary responsibilities of this position are to build and characterizein vivo animal models,conduct PKPDand efficacy studies to support our oncology R&D portfolio, with a focus on drugs targeting hematologic cancers.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leveragein vivoknowledge and hands-ontechnical skills to support our hemeoncology platform capabilities and projects by:

  • Developing and working with various in vivo models of cancer including subcutaneousxenograft models, disseminated models, patient-derived xenograft (PDX)models and humanized IO models

  • Conducting in vivo pharmacology studies (i.e.,tolerability, PKPD, and efficacy) and delivering comprehensive in vivo pharmacology data packagesto support both early and late-stage drug discovery programs.

  • Profiling of tissue samples to explore mechanisms of drug response and resistance using both traditional and novel approaches.

  • Demonstrate proficiency and flexibility in working with various computer programs and databases to capture all study data for broad access by project teams and stakeholders.

  • Work collaboratively across disciplines to develop and implement aggressive work plans and timelines.

  • Bring in new technologies and approaches to improve or replace existing disease model platforms to better predict clinical response.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of hands-on in vivo experience or MS/PhD in biology (immunology, hematology)pharmacology, or related field with4+ years hands-onin vivo experience with different mouse strains and models including GEMMs, CDX and disseminated PDX mouse models, preferably in biopharma.

  • Demonstrated experience generating andworking with various rodentdisease models including proficiency with PO, IP and IV dosing of small molecules and biologics. 

  • Ability to work both independently as well as within project teams and across disciplines.

  • Ability to still lead from the bench in problem solving and in the development of innovative solutions.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, presentational, and listening skills. Must be able to be flexible and adaptable to AstraZenecaways of working.”

  • 2+ years of hands-on expertise conducting flow cytometry (Spectral flow) on rodent blood and tissues and/or patient samples.

  • Able to establish and maintain collaborative relationships and activities with external academic institutions and CROs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma and/or Acute MyeloidLeukemia biology including cancer progenitor cells and early transformation events in blood cells

  • 3D culture ex vivo experiences for Multiple Myeloma, AML 

  • Ability to analyze biomarkers in blood and tissue samples using techniques such as IHC, Western blot, ELISAand/or MSD-based platforms. 

  • Experience using small animal imaging modalitiessuch as bioluminescence imaging (IVIS)
